Services

The Arc of Walker County, in conjunction with the State of Alabama Department of Mental Health, Medicaid and other partner agencies, assists people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to find the services they need to live as independently as possible.

HOME & COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES:

COMMUNITY:

Individualized plans for adults with IDD aged 18 and over are designed to allow each person to learn at their own pace.   Educational and social opportunities as well as exploring employment interests take place in various locations within the Walker County community.

residential:

Some people with IDD cannot live alone or with family members.  Residential services provide a home within the community where people served can live alone or with a roommate in a safe and secure environment.  Services are 24-hours per day, 365 days per year and individualized for each person’s needs.

Supported Employment:

Supported Employment provides pre-employment and employment assistance for people with IDD.  Pre-employment services in the local high schools prepare students to enter the work force.  Employment services assist with skills assessments, job seeking and job retention.  The State of Alabama Department of Vocational Rehabilitation provides support and assistance to the Arc for this program’s activities.

supported living:

This program provides companion services for adults with IDD who live at home or by themselves.  It allows independence while helping with daily activities that are beyond the abilities of the person served.  Driving, doctor’s appointments, and shopping are a few of the things this program can help you do.

CHILDREN’S SERVICES:

Early Intervention:

In-home and virtual services are provided to children birth to age 3 by our Early Intervention Program.  By participating in EI, families have access to speech, occupational and physical therapy, as well as Autism testing.  EI helps children overcome delays and learn to succeed.

OUTPATIENT SERVICES:

We also offer Physical, Occupational and Speech therapies to children ages 3-12 at our Russell Dairy Road location.
