The Reach Pre-K program helps develop social, academic and other skills to prepare four-year-olds to enter kindergarten. One of their greatest success stories is that of a little girl who, like many of her peers, was unable to write her name or recognize it at the beginning of the year. This precious little girl would isolate herself from others and was reluctant to participate in classroom activities.
The teachers in Pre-K encouraged her to participate in classroom activities while helping her recognize, write, and say her name to other children. They used a variety of creative techniques and methods to encourage her and provide her chances to succeed without causing more stress. By the end of the year she was an active participant in the classroom, she would write her own name, and would proudly tell you her name when you came in the room. She began kindergarten with some much-needed self-confidence!
